We're hiring a Junior Developer
Who are we?
Airship is an established SaaS (software as a service) company based in Sheffield. We have two products that serve the best and most exciting brands in the UK hospitality industry - think Byron, The Alchemist, Leon, Turtle Bay, Chilago, Boxpark and many more.
Don’t be misled by the word ‘established’ however - we’re in an exciting phase that’s much more akin to a start-up with the recent release of one of our products, and a new proposition for our other.
We’re looking for a junior developer to join our established engineering team.
The role
Your role will kick off with mastering our overall product architectures and APIs, shadowing other developers and learning the ropes. You’ll immediately drop into our sprint kick-offs and stand-ups so you have exposure to our processes and learn how we work and who we are.
Once you’re comfortable with our APIs, you’ll start taking on development projects such as web forms and simple bespoke mechanics that help our customers attain their specific implementation requirements. Using our APIs like this will help you get to grips with how our product architecture operates.
Meanwhile, as you’ll have been involved in the sprint processes, you’ll be asked to start help manually testing some of our releases, using your natural curiosity to uncover software faults, analytical and diagnostic skills to catch those fringe cases that the team and automated testing might have missed. This will also help you really start to get under-the-hood of our platforms.
As your familiarity with our products and your confidence grows, you’ll take on larger and more significant projects and start to work as an integrated member of the engineering team.
About you
You’ll love writing code and deeply care about learning your craft as well as contributing to the success of our products. You’ll no doubt have some of your own personal projects to show off your technical interests and growing breadth of knowledge. Our engineering team generally works on web based applications, so you’ll probably need to be pretty familiar with HTML, CSS, Javascript and a backend language such as PHP. A bit of knowledge of APIs (RESTful, SOAP, GraphQL) wouldn’t go amiss either.
A graduate degree is not a necessity. We welcome applications from self-taught developers and graduates alike.
