You Had One Job… The Five Mistakes You Are Making in Your Email Marketing

You Had One Job… The Five Mistakes You Are Making in Your Email Marketing

We send out over 5 million emails for our clients every week...so we like to think we know a thing or two about getting the best from your email broadcasts. Let’s make your email better; here’s our top 5 email marketing mistakes.

  1. A clickbait subject line - When a subject line implies something and a user clicks through and finds that it’s about something completely different it can be frustrating. Avoid using this tactic too often - if they are continuously misled then this will have a negative impact in the long-term.
  2. Overlooking the message preview - Most email clients display preview text after the subject line. This is usually the first few lines of text in your email and is around 100 characters long. You have 100 characters to capture the recipient’s attention, so avoid using the same text as the subject line and instead use it as an extension to provide more detail.
  3. The from name is ‘noreply’ - People like people, not robots - try adding a name to your format to give the recipient a sense that they are communicating with an actual member of your team.
  4. The email is about the product, not the customer - The email should always be about the customer and should tailor the offering to their interests, rather than promoting a whole load of features that aren't relevant to the customer.
  5. Having too many ‘calls to action’ (CTAs) - Every email broadcast should have a purpose...and generally, the purpose will be to deliver results to your business. Your call to action should help your business to achieve your goals, whether that’s bookings, sales or feedback about your offering. Having one clear call to action in your email is the best way of making your emails a success.
